We fished with Northwind Outfitters (guided by R.J. Waldron) for stripers on October 25, 2007. We had a blast!! Since this was our first striper fishing trip we had no personal fishing gear and relied upon his equipment. His fishing gear is first rate – all his rods were G-Lomis rods, reels also high quality equipment. He had seperate rods rigged for bait casting, spinning, trolling and fly fishing. This allowed us to quickly adjust gear to fishing style with a minimum of “rigging time”.
He met us at the marina when we drove into the parking lot. His boat is a beautiful, clean, white 19 foot skiff with a center control consol and plenty of room to move around. Personal gear was stored in a compartment in the bow. The boat is equipped with Mercury outboard engine (I think he said it was 115 HP), radio and Hummingbird Fishfinder (sonar/GPS). An electric trolling motor is mounted on the bow and is controlled by a foot control unit.
Due to enroute time and traffic, we didn’t arrive until 0800 but the boat was tied at the pier ready to go. We quickly loaded up and spent the next eight hours fishing. Within two hours we had caught ten stripers and finished the day with 20! Since there were three of us, we kept a total of six and released the rest after the obligatory photos. We had a ball! My wife was so excited that she called via cell phone from the boat surrounded by the marsh to her brother in Ohio to brag. Although we tried all fishing methods, only live bait was successful. We drifted with the tide jigging with minnows and catching fish while other fishermen in other boats didn’t appear to have much activity.
As we said, we caught 20 beautiful stripers. It was a hoot and I strongly recommend a fishing trip with RJ. He knows his business and will do his best to ensure that you have a memorable experience.

I have never written a guide service after the hunt, I want to thank you for what could be my best hunt day of the year! My Uncle (who is like a father to me) came out from Chicago and I wanted to treat him to something different. As guides go you were very different, professional, kind, knowledgeable, hard working and really fun to be around. You put us on ducks, lots of them, it wasn’t your fault we only got 13! The weather couldn’t have been worse, but the day couldn’t have been better. My hunt buddy Steve and I look forward to hunting and fishing with you in the future, thanks for being different!

Once again, I was fortunate enough to find a opening in R J ’s schedule during my sons leave from the USAF. I am still amazed by R J ’s uncanny ability to always locate catchable fish, no matter what the condition. This latest trip was very meaningful to my son and I, due to the fact he ships out to Iraq next month. R J ’s always willing to bend over backwards to set up a trip for me on my busy schedule, on this day, he actually had done a early morning guide and was back in at 1:30 p.m. and we met him at Big Break launch ramp as his morning clients were saying their thanks, and handing him a $100 tip. I asked one of the two ladies how the fishing was, and she just said “He sure knows what he is doing! I think we caught about 15 Stripers, and one was 18 lbs. and I am sore”.
We got to R J ’s secret hot spot around 2:15 p.m. and my son hooked up with a nice 8 pounder, to sum up the afternoon, we were back at the launch ramp by 4:30 p.m., the quick trip produced 7 beautiful Stripers, with a score of 4 to 3, the son, like always, beating out the old man! I wouldn’t have it any other way…….
To anyone concidering a guide trip with R J, only book a trip if you are: Interested in actually catching fish, riding in a awsome boat, enjoy good company, and enjoy gaining knowledge of the wonderful sport of fishing…..R J is the most pleasant, talented fishing guide I have ever had the pleasure of going out with.! Thanks again R J, four trips, two will be forever special, one with my son, and one with my dad, hey,? How come the dad and the son both caught more fish then me.?

RE: Striper fishing What a superb family event! As the Grandfather I took my daughter and her 8 year old son and 6 1/2 daughter for a very memorable day in the Delta with Capt. R. J.. We had fish on in 15 minutes Total was 15+ fish up to 13 pounds in three hours. Everyone including a proud Grandpa was absolutely thrilled. Great job R. J.!!!

I do have one complaint though – my arms were sore from the seemingly endless reeling in of 4-12 pound stripers (and the 20ish pounder that got away). The experience was phenomenal.
